"This single comprehensive system can reduce stress, increase flexibility, improve balance, promote strength, heighten cardiovascular conditioning, lower blood pressure, reduce overweight, strengthen bones, prevent injuries, lift mood, improve immune function, increase the oxygen supply to the tissues, heighten sexual functioning and fulfillment, foster psychological equanimity and promote spiritual well-being…and that’s only a partial list."

Yoga for Scoliosis
Poses for Peace At the age of 10, Melissa was diagnosed with an advanced case of Scoliosis, curvature of the spine. Her doctor prescribed a device called The Scolitron, a Electrical Muscle Stimulation device intended to contract the muscles of the back while she slept, in hopes of correcting her curvatures. This treatment was not successful, so she was referred to a surgeon. In 1987, she had Harrington Rod Implantation with Fusion, which provided a 50% correction to the upper and lower curvatures.

According to Wikipedia.org: “Scoliotic curves of 10° or less affect 3-5 out of every 1,000 people.” Melissa is passionate about working with others who have been diagnosed with Scoliosis and hopes she can help them avoid extreme treatments and procedures, such as The Scolitron or surgery. Yoga has helped Melissa curb pain and increase flexibility. If you have pain, discomfort or other challenges caused by Scoliosis, please contact Melissa today to schedule an evaluation and an opportunity to discuss a personalized yoga program. Please bring any x-rays and information on your condition to the meeting.
